HOW TO CHOOSE A TRAILER?

How often and for what purpose will the trailer be used?

How do you choose a trailer that’s right for you, and will last for years to come? We have more than 100 models to choose from, and to find the right one, you first have to ask yourself how often and for what purpose the trailer will be used.

For example, is it foreseeable that a lawn tractor or ATV will be towed from your home to your summer cottage. Another frequent reason for using a trailer is to transport building materials. In this case, it is worth considering how often this is done. Is this a daily job or is it more of a yearly occurrence? If you need to fetch materials from the building store once a month, there’s probably no need to buy the most expensive trailer in the segment. If it’s used every day, the rule of thumb is that for the same parameters, a more expensive product will have more engineering to ensure the durability and functionality of the trailer.

Trailers are broadly divided into two types: welded and bolted trailers.

On a Tiki welded frame, the load-bearing part of the trailer is a fully welded frame, which means that the subframe and the sidewall elements are laser-welded together from laser-cut tubes into a single unit and then hot-dip galvanised. This ensures maximum elasticity and corrosion resistance of the trailer. This steel tube trellis structure prevents the frame from bending under load, and all the other components of the trailer are added to the frame later.

In the case of a bolt-jointed trailer, the frame parts are joined together with bolts and rivets. A bolted trailer is designed more for the home user and enthusiast. For hauling heavy loads on a daily basis, we strongly recommend a trailer with a welded frame.

WHAT LICENCES DO YOU NEED TO DRIVE A TRAILER?

When choosing a trailer, one of the things to check is whether you have the permits in your pocket that entitle you to tow the trailer you have chosen. There is very often confusion about the BE licence: when exactly do you need it anyway? And what else is B96? It is often the confusion between the requirements for the car and the requirements for the driver that gets people into trouble with the law. What is allowed for the car may not be allowed for the driver.

Before driving a trailer, make sure that you, as the driver, have the necessary licence category to drive the specific train!

A category B licence allows you to drive a light trailer (up to 750kg).
